Mr. Xia Gengsheng, Vice Administrator of National Rural Revitalization Administration of P.R. China delivered a speech in the opening ceremony of the seminar, pointing out that the Global Solicitation on Best Poverty Reduction Practices focuses on international organizations and individuals valuing poverty reduction and development, collecting cases that could be understood, learned, and practiced. It aims at sharing global practices of poverty reduction and China’s experience of poverty reduction without any reservation through case studies.
Mr. Cao Wendao, Senior Economist of the World Bank China, indicated that as one of the organizers, the World Bank always attaches great importance to the Global Solicitation on Best Poverty Reduction Practices. The World Bank hopes that the Global Solicitation on Best Poverty Reduction Practices could contribute to the promotion and sharing of successful poverty reduction practices from China and abroad and the building of a community of shared future free from poverty and pursuing common development.
The Global Solicitation on Best Poverty Reduction Practices was initiated in 2018, attracting organizations and individuals across the world. A total of 1,831 poverty reduction cases were collected since then,over 200 cases were submitted by international organizations and NGOs including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (CSAM), Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and research institutions including Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI), African Centre for Economic Transformation (ACET). The cases involve poverty alleviation programmes being carried out in Afghanistan, Nepal, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, India and more than 50 other countries. 517 cases were collected during the Third Call of Global Solicitation on Best Poverty Reduction Practices.
